Fulvio Delle Donne. Full Professor of Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature (SSD FLMR-01/A) at the University of Naples Federico II; qualified as Full Professor also for Medieval History.
With a constant focus on contemporary issues, my extensive scientific output combines philological-literary and historical methods, covering a chronological span from the 6th to the 16th century. I have published around 60 books, including monographs, critical editions, and edited works (for prestigious international Publishers), and around 300 articles in international scientific journals and volumes (mainly Class A for Areas 10 and 11).
I am Director or member of the Scientific Commitees of numerous Class A Journals and editorial Series, and I am the Leader of PNRR Goals, PRIN and many others international scientific projects supported and funded in Italy and other countries (PNRR Tech4Y, PRIN IMPERI SITUS, etc.).
I am the winner of an international scientific prize (Stauferpreis, Germany; Best Researcher, India; Premio Basilicata).
I am the President of the European Center for Studies on Aragonese Humanism and Renaissance - CESURA, and the Director of the connected International Interuniversity Center. I am Membre acadèmic corresponent a l’estranger (elected) of the Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona; Member of the Commission d’admission des membres de l'École française de Rome; Membre associé of the LaMOP - Laboratoire de Médiévistique occidentale de Paris (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).
I am also the President of the National Academic Association for the Latin Middle Ages and Humanism (CoMUL), of the Scientific Committee for the project aimed at improving and enhancing the accessibility of Castel del Monte, the Scientific Director of the Festival “Federico II - Stupor Mundi”, and of the “Fantastico Medioevo” project.
I have been, among other roles, a Member of the Organizing Committee for the celebrations of the Eighth Centenary of the Foundation of the University of Naples “Federico II”, for which I served as the referent on the figure of Frederick II.
From 2008 to 2024 I was a professor at the University of Basilicata, whwew I performed several organizational positions within the University (Director of the Basilicata University Press and of the University Central Library; member of PQA; Research Commission) and the Department DiSU (Director of Master’s Degree Course in European History and Civilization; President of “Paritetica”; member of Research Commission and HQ).
Main areas of research are: Medieval Literature; Medieval History; History of the Mediterranean; Construction of Identity Memory; Concept of the State; Concept of virtue, nobility, merit (and meritocracy); Legitimization of power; Transmission and tradition of ancient, medieval, and humanistic texts and thought; Medieval rhetoric and epistolary writing; Medieval and humanistic historiography; Culture and cultural institutions in the medieval and humanistic periods; Ecdotic theory and practice.
